Harrisville voters approve $11.49 million budget, elect one board member


On May 19, Harrisville Central School District voters approved the district’s $11.49 million 2026-27 budget proposal, elected one board of education member and approved the purchase of two school buses.

District-related propositions

  • A $11,494,928 budget for the 2026-27 school year that decreases spending 0.32% (-$36,816) and carries a tax levy increase of 3.99%: 125 yes; 46 no
  • Purchasing two new school buses at a total cost not to exceed $337,700: 127 yes; 44 no

Board of Education election

One candidate sought election to one open board of education seat.

The term will last five years, beginning July 1, 2026, and expiring June 30, 2031:

  • Cory Bearor: 131 votes
  • Write-in: 22 votes

Library proposition

  • Harrisville Free Library tax collection, in the additional amount of $7,000 for a new total of $92,000 annually: 79 yes; 94 no

New York state education law allows libraries to place a funding proposition on school district ballots and requires school districts, at the libraries’ requests, to levy and collect taxes for libraries. The Harrisville Free Library is a separate legal entity from the school district, with its own funding and budget.
