On May 20, Harrisville Central School District voters approved the district’s $11.53 million 2025-26 budget proposal, elected one board of education member and approved the purchase of two school buses.
District-related propositions
- A $11,531,744 budget for the 2025-26 school year that decreases spending 2.06% (-$243,135) and carries a tax levy increase of 3.95%: 211 yes; 60 no (78% approval)
- Purchasing two new school buses at a total cost not to exceed $339,998: 215 yes; 57 no
Board of Education election
Three candidates sought election to one open board of education seat.
The term will last five years, beginning May 21, 2025, and expiring June 30, 2030:
- Jessica Frerichs: 66 votes
- Mike Jackson: 76 votes
- Brian Schrodt: 109 votes (winner)
Library proposition
- Harrisville Free Library tax collection, in the additional amount of $20,000 for a new total of $85,000 annually: 150 yes; 120 no
New York state education law allows libraries to place a funding proposition on school district ballots and requires school districts, at the libraries’ requests, to levy and collect taxes for libraries. The Harrisville Free Library is a separate legal entity from the school district, with its own funding and budget.
