Four students receive artwork awards; two to compete at national level

The artwork of four Harrisville Central School students has received recognition in the 2024 CNY Scholastic Art Awards.

Hailey Meagher, a senior, and Averie Meagher, an eighth grader, both received Gold Key awards for their pieces. Gold entries  are automatically submitted for awards at the national level.

Hailey received a Gold Key award for her senior portfolio entitled “Reflections of a High School Artist,” which includes six drawings and paintings. There were only 11 Gold Key awards given to students who submitted portfolios in all of central and northern New York.

Averie received a Gold Key award for her drawing entitled “Reflection.”

Two other students received honorable mention for their submissions:

  • Nevaeh LaPlatney, a junior, received honorable mention for her “Old Soul” drawing piece.
  • Aiden Mera, a junior, received honorable mention for his drawing, “Untitled.”

Each year, thousands of pieces of art are submitted for consideration in various categories. From Feb. 5-March 1, a Scholastic Art Awards Exhibit will be held at the Whitney Applied Technology Center at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse. The exhibit will showcase the student artwork from Harrisville and other school districts across New York for the public to view.
