The Harrisville Central School District Board of Education will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the school library. This hearing will be held before the board meeting, which is also now scheduled for Aug. 5 (rescheduled from Aug. 11). The hearing is an opportunity for the community to provide input on a proposed bell-to-bell student internet-enabled device policy, which includes personal smartphones and smartwatches.
This policy stems from a recent state law that prohibits students from viewing or accessing internet-enabled devices during the school day on school grounds. As part of the law, school districts must adopt a written policy prohibiting student use of these devices and must provide written notification to families of methods available to contact their students during the school day.
The Harrisville Board of Education and district leaders want to hear your feedback on successfully implementing this policy and how it can best benefit the Harrisville learning community.
If you are unable to attend the public hearing in person, you may send questions to District Clerk Jolie Snider at jsnider@hcsk12.org.
