I teach Remedial Reading in Grades K-5. Small groups of students receive push in services in their classroom, while other small groups are pulled out and receive services in my Remedial classroom. The reading strategies that are used compliment the new Scott Foresman Reading Series which we started using in September 2006. Leveled Readers are used, as well as The Sidewalks, an intervention program which is intended for the most at-risk students. The students seem to enjoy the new focus and I am really excited about it.
I also teach Math in Grades 2 and 4. Again, there is a combination of push in/pull out classes. Students are remediated in Math skills using the Scope and Sequence in the Math textbooks.
Planning and collaboration with classroom teachers is an essential element in our remedial classes. Students practice skills which were taught in their classroom and which need to be reinforced.
