Tests: Tests occur after each unit.  You will have two tests for each unit.  One will be an informational test and one will be a writing test.  Each test is graded separately and recorded under the test category in Web2School.  On average, you will have one or two units during each marking period.

Homework: Homework is expected to be done on time.  Homework from reading assignments is never accepted late because it is gone over in class on the day it is due.  Other homework assignments are deducted 15 points a day for each day they are late. Late writing assignments start at 60 and go down 20 points for two days.  Any writing assignments turned in after two days result in a 0.

Writing:  Writing assignments are always graded by a rubric.  Late writing assignments automatically start at 60%.  10 additional points are deducted for each additional day the assignment is late.  Regents assignments count as writing grades.

Projects:  You will complete several projects during each quarter.  Most projects will be done in groups; however, some will be done individually.  Late projects are deducted the same way as regular homework assignments.

Quizzes:  Most quizzes are announced at least one day in advance; however, some will not be announced at all.   There are two types of quizzes: multiple choice and writing.  They both go in the same grading category in Web2School.

Participation: A participation grade is given once every five weeks.  Your participation grade depends on how much you participate in class.

Outside Reading:  You are required to read one young adult novel on your own during each quarter.  The entire class will go to the library to pick outside reading books once a quarter.  After reading the novel, you are expected to complete a project to prove that you read the book and to share your book with the class.  You may present your project at any time during the quarter.

Additional Outside Reading Projects:  You may do additional outside reading projects to increase your grade.  Every additional project done within a quarter will raise your original project grade by ten points.  There is no limit on additional outside reading projects.

Binders:  You are required to keep a binder for this class.  Your binder must have loose writing paper and tab dividers.  Every quiz and handout that is passed back to you must be placed in the binder. This must be brought to class each day.  You will be required to have your binders open and ready at the beginning of each class.

Binders will be graded every 10 weeks and counted as a test grade.

Tabs must be in the following order: The Scarlet Letter, The Great Gatsby, Poetry, To Kill a Mockingbird, Macbeth, The Crucible, Speech, Literary Terms, Regents.

Regents:   Regents review will be done throughout the year. Regents essays are graded as writing grades.

Grade Posting:  Grades will be posted in the classroom periodically throughout the quarter by your student number.

Absentee Policy: If you are absent, refer to the chart below to see how many days you have to make up homework, test and quizzes.
