HARRISVILLE — Harrisville Central School District residents on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a $2,745,000 capital project, 187-15.

"We're very excited," said District Superintendent Rolf A. Waters. "The board is looking forward to making changes and continuing forward."

The project's main selling point was that, by using state funding and a district capital reserve fund, it should have little or no effect on local property taxes. "There's no fluff," Mr. Waters said.

The project includes a two-classroom addition, installation of security cameras, roof work to reroute rainwater, extension of the bus garage for a new lift, replacement of gym bleachers installed in 1981, new auditorium seats and lockers in both locker rooms and a shared fueling station for local municipalities and emergency services.

Construction is tentatively planned from July 2009 through January 2010.
