Building Maintenance Projects
As with all buildings, our school needs constant maintenance.  The building survey calls for exterior & interior steel rehabilitation, masonry restoration, wood window rehabilitation, wall to roof flashing reconstruction, re-caulking of interior to exterior wall intersections, interior corridor ceiling replacements, and accessibility upgrades.
Lockers in the boys and girls locker room need to be replaced.  Many are broken and unsafe for student use.
The bleachers in the gymnasium and seats in the auditorium need to be replaced.  The seating in the gym and auditorium was 'used' product purchased from other schools when our last building project was done because there was not enough money at that time to buy new seats. They have served us well, but the current seats and bleachers are so old they cannot be fixed and replacement parts are not available.

Pre-Kindergarten
This project will help us provide pre-kindergarten to district students by renovating a space for the elementary computer classroom, which is currently housed in a room designed for Pre-K.
When the building project of 2001 was done, the board and district hoped to begin offering Pre-Kindergarten.  Unfortunately, there were no guarantees from year to year that funding would continue to exist.  Funding is now based on need and size of the district.  We are funded for 20 pupils at a per pupil ratio.  Because our numbers are not that high, we can fund all of our four year olds for half day programming beginning next fall.  We have been awarded approximately $82,500 for the 2008-2009 school year.  We can hire a teacher and an aide to operate the program.

Special Education
The district would like to bring all district students back to our building for their educations.  We currently send a few students out of district because we cannot provide an appropriate program for them.  The program they currently attend will be moved at the end of the 2008-2009 school year.  When that happens, the closest programs that we are aware of would be Heuvelton, Potsdam or Watertown.  We feel that is too far to ask our children to travel and still be successful.

We propose to build two new classrooms off the high school wing.  This would hold a new 15-1-1 classroom for Special Education and a French classroom.  Middle School classrooms would be re-aligned; rooms would be remodeled for better space utilization for Resource Rooms, an OT/PT room, and counseling offices.  A new  12-1-1 Life Skills classroom would be created in renovated space.
Technology
The Elementary Computer Classroom would move into a new space and be equipped with new technology. Classrooms would be equipped with television cabling. The security system would be upgraded.  Also, the auditorium sound system and lighting would be upgraded.

Bus Garage
The buses we have purchased recently are larger, so we are proposing to expand the maintenance bay by 20 feet and install a new lift.  The current lift is old, requiring increased maintenance for leaking gaskets, and is not large enough to hold newer buses.

Shared Municipal Grant
The village and district engaged in a shared municipal grant for a shared fueling station.  This would allow the two entities to share the same facility.  The shared facility would include a new fueling station, a lighted canopy for weather protection and fire protection suppression system, and  a new fuel tank.  A municipal grant of $44,836 has been awarded to Harrisville.
